UCB will close at the end of June, leaving a hole in the area.
The bookstore, located at 3134 U.S. Highway 99, will close in a few weeks after its lease expires, said Mike Smith, executive director of the nonprofit bookstore Association of Booksellers of San Diego.
There are no plans to reopen.
The group has no plans for any more bookstores in the San Diego area, Smith said.
The store is located in a community where there are more than 40 different bookstores and many more in the Pacific Northwest.
We’ve always been open to change, but it just doesn’t work anymore, Smith told the newspaper.
Smith said there’s a lot of money to be made from the sale of books on Amazon.
He’s hopeful that Amazon will find a buyer.
He said he hopes UCB doesn’t get a bad review for not making more money.
“We’re not going to change that because of the press.
That’s just not going on,” Smith said in an interview.
“We’ve never had a negative review.”
