A bookseller in Washington state has opened an online bookshop that allows readers to buy online with their credit cards, bypassing banks and other payment processors.
Kaiyobi Bookstore is located in the Columbia River Gorge near Seattle, but the space is already full of books, CDs, DVDs, newspapers and other titles.
Kiyobi is the latest bookstore in a long line of new bookstores popping up in the Washington area, many of them in the downtown area.
Last year, Kiyobi opened a store in the same downtown area, but now its online store is opening a few blocks away.
The online bookstore, which will open next week, allows readers the ability to order books directly from the company’s site, as well as buy directly from customers who pre-order books on their own or with a credit card.
The company plans to open a store on the east side of the river soon.
The shop has a small outdoor patio, but will be a more open space, said Lisa Fennell, director of business development at Kaiyobi.
Fennell said there are about 20,000 people who live and work in the Seattle area, and the bookstore will be an ideal place for them to get a quick book to start their day.
“We wanted to give people a place where they could find the books that they wanted, that they would want to get out there and get,” Fennett said.
